Fair and Simple Kufi Pattern

It’s finally here! And available on my blog for FREE. (PHOTO HEAVY) [Update Jan 18 2018]

This is made with Premier Yarns Cotton Fair yarn and a 3.5mm hook. I’ve included some progress photos at the end.
Fair and Simple Kufi
Child size will be about 19”x6”
Regular Adult size will be about 20.5”x6”

 

Stitch Index

(American Crochet Terms)
CH – Chain
SL ST – Slip Stitch
SP – Space
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
PST – Puff Stitch; Yarn over, insert hook into space, yarn over and pull up (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, insert hook into same space, yarn over and pull up (5 loops). Yarn over, insert hook into same space, yarn over and pull up last time (7 loops). To finish, pull hook through all loops and chain 1.

Supplies Needed
Premier Cotton Fair – 1 ball
3.50mm crochet hook
Scissors and needle for finishing

Instructions for Child and Regular Adult Sizes are as follows:
CH 5, SL ST to first CH to firm a ring.

R1: Gently pull loop up and PST into ring 6 times, CH 1 (so 2 CH total) and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. (6 PST)

R2: Pull up loop and PST 2X into same SP as join, skip PST and make 2 PST in each CH 1 SP. Repeat to end, CH 1 and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. (12 PST)

R3: Repeat Row 2. (24 PST)

R4: Pull up loop, PST once in same SP as join, skip PST and make one PST in the CH 1 SP. 2 PST in next CH1 SP. *One PST the next two CH 1 spaces, 2 PST in the next CH 1 SP. Repeat from * to end. CH 1 and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. (32 PST)

R5: Pull up loop, PST once in same SP as join, skip PST and make one PST in the next two CH 1 SPs. 2 PST in next CH 1 SP. *One PST in the next 3 CH 1 SPs, 2 PST in next CH 1 SP. Repeat from * to end. CH 1 and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. (40 PST)

R6 (Child): Pull up loop, PST once in same SP as join, skip PST and make one PST in the next 6 CH 1 SPs. 2 PST in next CH 1 SP. *One PST in the next 7 CH 1 SPs, 2 PST the next CH 1 SP. Repeat from * to end. CH 1 and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. (45 PST)

R6 (R Adult): Pull up loop, PST once in same SP as join, skip PST and make one PST in the next 3 CH 1 SPs. 2 PST in next CH 1 SP. *One PST in the next 4 CH 1 SPs, 2 PST the next CH 1 SP. Repeat from * to end. CH 1 and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. (48 PST)

R7-20: Pull up loop and PST in the same SP as join, skip the PST and make one PST in every CH 1 SP around to end. CH 1 and SL ST into SP between 1st and 2nd PST. Repeat for 13 more rows, or until you reach desired length. In last row, SL ST to top of 1st PST. (45/48 PST)

R21: CH3, 2DC in CH 1 SP. *DC in top of PST, 2DC in CH 1 SP. Repeat from *to end, SL ST to top of CH 3. (134/143 DC)

Finishing Row: CH 2, SC into each DC around and SL ST to top of CH 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.

DONE!

PS – if you can’t get Cotton Fair, I wrapped the yarn around my ruler and found it is right at 19 WPI, so if you want to supplement with another yarn that is the WPI you want!
